“Tôi thấy không cần thiết phải tâng bốc các cầu thủ nhập tịch”, Husaini nói trên tờ Bola ngày 14/11. “Việc này có thể gây tổn thương cho những cầu thủ bản địa. Bóng đá là môn thể thao tập thể với 11 cầu thủ trên sân. Nếu khen cầu thủ nhập tịch quá mức, có vẻ như thành công là nhờ họ”.
Husaini cũng khẳng định ở đội tuyển quốc gia, vai trò của những cầu thủ bản địa như Rizky Ridho, Nadeo Argawinata, hay Ernando Ari Sutaryadi không nên bị xem nhẹ so với các cầu thủ nhập tịch.

Tuyển trẻ Indonesia đang dự World Cup U17 với hai cầu thủ sống ở nước ngoài, Welber Jardim và Amar Brkic. Jardim đá chính hai trận hòa Ecuador 1-1 và Panama 1-1, còn Brkic vào sân trong hiệp hai trận hòa Panama. “Nếu U17 Indonesia thất bại, toàn bộ cầu thủ bản địa có thể bị đổ lỗi”, Husaini cảnh báo. “Hãy khen ngợi tương xứng. Đó là điều mà bóng đá Indonesia cần cho các cầu thủ địa phương”.
Cầu thủ nhập tịch đang xuất hiện ngày một nhiều tại các đội tuyển Indonesia. Những cầu thủ này có thể nhập tịch theo người thân gốc Indonesia, hoặc từng sống nhiều nằm tại nước này.
Trung vệ Elkan Baggott chào đời tại Thái Lan và trưởng thành tại Anh, nhưng nhập tịch theo mẹ người Indonesia. Trung vệ Jordi Amat chào đời và trưởng thành tại Tây Ban Nha, nhưng nhập tịch theo bà. Còn tiền vệ Marc Klok nhập tịch sau năm năm thi đấu tại Indonesia. Tuy nhiên, hồi tháng 5/2023, tuyển U23 Indonesia giành HC vàng Sea Games với toàn bộ cầu thủ chào đời trong nước.
Ngày 16 và 21/11, trong hai trận đầu vòng loại World Cup 2026, tuyển Indonesia sẽ gặp Iraq và Philippines. HLV Shin Tae-yong đã triệu tập sáu cầu thủ nhập tịch gồm Elkan Baggott, Jordi Amat, Marc Klok, Sandy Walsh, Shayne Pattynama và Rafael Struick.
Indonesia, Iraq, Philippines và Việt Nam nằm chung bảng F vòng loại thứ hai khu vực châu Á. Bốn đội sẽ đá vòng tròn hai lượt. Hai đội đứng đầu sẽ giành vé vào vòng loại thứ ba và suất dự Asian Cup 2027. Ngày 16 và 21/11, Việt Nam sẽ lần lượt gặp Philippines và Iraq, còn Indonesia đấu Iraq rồi Philippines.
